Garage Door Track Replacement Cost Calculator

Estimate a track replacement — the track sets, the labor and the service call, plus a contingency buffer — from the prices on your quote.

⚠️ Garage-door torsion and extension springs and cables store extreme mechanical energy. A failing spring or cable can cause serious injury or death. Spring, cable and off-track work must be done by a trained garage-door technician with the correct winding bars. This is a cost estimate, NOT a DIY repair or safety guide.
Planning estimate: this is a planning estimate from the numbers you enter — not a bid or a contract. Garage-door pricing depends on brand, material, size, hardware and local labor. Get itemized written quotes from licensed, insured garage-door installers before you commit.

2 track sets at $125.00 each plus $120.00 labor and $75.00 service call is about $489.50. Bent vertical or horizontal tracks bind the door and wear rollers. ⚠️ Track work happens around loaded springs and cables — a cost estimate only; hire a trained technician.

The tracks are the steel channels the rollers ride in: a vertical section up each side of the opening and a horizontal section running back under the ceiling. A track that is bent, rusted or knocked out of alignment binds the door, wears rollers quickly and can throw the door off track. This calculator estimates the cost to replace the damaged track sets.

Track is usually quoted per set (a matched vertical-and-horizontal pair for one side), with a flat labor charge to remove the old track, fit and align the new, and re-hang the door true. Alignment is the skilled part — a fraction of an inch out and the door binds again.

Formula

Track parts plus flat labor plus the service call, with a contingency buffer:

total = (track_sets × price_per_set + labor + service_call) × (1 + contingency%)

Enter the number of track sets being replaced (often two — one per side), the price each, the flat labor to fit and align them, and the trip fee.

Worked example

2 track sets at $125 each, $120 flat labor, a $75 service call and a 10% contingency:

  • Track: 2 × $125 = $250
  • Labor (flat): $120
  • Service call: $75
  • Subtotal: $250 + $120 + $75 = $445
  • With 10% contingency: $445 × 1.10 = $489.50

So replacing both tracks lands around $489.50 in this example. If only one side is damaged, set the track sets to 1; enter your own quoted prices to compare installers.

Repair or replace the track?

Track work happens right beside the loaded springs and cables, and the door has to be supported while the old track comes off — which is why it is a technician’s job, not a DIY one, even though the parts look simple. A mildly bent track can sometimes be straightened rather than replaced; ask which your quote assumes, since it changes the price.

Typical track-replacement bands run roughly $150–$500 as a labeled planning guide, depending on how many sets and the door size. If the track was damaged because the door came off its rails, budget the realignment too with the off-track repair estimator, and check for a bent cable or roller with the cable, roller and hinge estimator.

Frequently asked questions

How much does garage door track replacement cost?
Replacing both track sets is usually a few hundred dollars of parts and labor. In the worked example — 2 sets at $125, $120 flat labor and a $75 service call — the total is about $489.50 with a 10% buffer. One side only is roughly half the parts.
Can a bent garage door track be repaired instead of replaced?
Sometimes. A mildly bent track can be straightened and realigned, which is cheaper than replacement. A badly kinked, rusted or crimped track should be replaced. Ask your technician which your quote assumes.
How many track sets does my door need?
Most doors have one track set per side — a vertical piece up the jamb and a horizontal piece under the ceiling — so two sets in total. If only one side is damaged, you replace just that set.
Why is aligning the track the important part?
Even a fraction of an inch of misalignment makes the door bind, wear rollers and risk going off track again. The flat labor charge covers this careful fitting, which is what separates a lasting repair from a quick one.
Is track replacement a DIY job?
No. The door must be supported and the work happens beside loaded springs and cables that store extreme energy. This tool estimates the cost; leave the replacement to a trained garage-door technician.
